Lawrence Durrell Inscribed Volumes to Henry Miller to Auction

A group of seven titles from Henry Miller's personal library including several inscribed by his good friend novelist Lawrence Durrell will come to auction at Freeman’s | Hindman.
The Collected Library: Summer Reading sale, which ends August 13, features the grouping (estimate: $1,000 - $1,500) which comprises:
- Prospero's Cell (London, Faber and Faber, 1945) with Miller's signed bookplate
- Two Excursions into Reality (Berkley, CA, Circle Editions, 1947), with Miller's signed bookplate
- Esprit de Corps (London, Faber and Faber, 1957), inscribed by Durrell to Miller: "Celestial arithmetic, I have made on this little rubbish twice what I make on Justine in serial rights alone! It is ten days work! Love, Larry." Also with Miller's signed bookplate.
- The Dark Labyrinth (London, Harborough Publishing, 1958), inscribed by Durrell to Miller: "Henry and Eve, sometimes you may have to face a very boring train journey - Larry." Also with Miller's signed bookplate.
- The Black Book (New York, Pocket Books, 1962), laid in with a note in Miller's hand
- The Passionate Epicure (New York, E.P. Dutton & Co., 1962), inscribed to Miller from Emil White, with Miller's personal stamp and the notation: "Please return to" in Miller's hand
- Un Faust irlandais (Paris, Gallimard, 1974), inscribed by Durrell to Miller: "A vous cher Henry, avec mon affection, Larry."
Other Durrell items going under the hammer in the sale include first editions of his tetralogy Alexandria Quartet (Justine, Balthazar, Mountolive, and Clea), in dust jackets (estimate: $800 - $1,200).
